Today's Session - Unit 9 Creative Product Promotion

In today's session the following was covered:

1)  Use of Journals
2) Use of Blogs, using Google calender
3) Use of Scrap book 

All groups e.g A, B, C, and D must have the following information to meet the criteria for P2- Marketing task.

Project



This will include project subjects such as:
·       Creative product Promotions
·       Market research in Business
·       Developing teams in Business
·       Managing a Business Event

All criteria will be linked as part of the project. Blogs will be created to evidence work, as well as journals, and scrap books.
Merit and distinctions tasks will be given a two week window by the end project date.

Scenario

You are a budding entrepreneur and have been approached by Jamal Edwards ...Yes ..the very man himself, who has heard that you had an idea of a product/service that you were thinking of developing.

To your amazement you find yourself in a position where you will need to think about a number of employability skills you may need.  For example; how much do you know about Marketing? How effective are your research skills? Will you need to work as part of a team? If so, what skills /qualities are needed to this effectively?  Lastly, this young entrepreneur wants you to show him your ideas, how do you organise an event that will showcase this? Do you have the skills needed to run an event?

This project will enable you to:

1.    Develop an understanding why businesses collect data about their market.
2.  Understand the importance of effective team working to an organisations success.
3.  Organise and co-ordinate a business event.
4.  Learn about the promotional mix, marketing mix, buyer behaviour and branding.

1.    U19 Developing teams – U18 Prepare a plan for a business event.








You will need to create teams of 5 people maximum within your tutor groups. Please confirm your groups and give full names to your tutors; this evidence will be posted in your blog.

Describe different types of team and the benefits of teams for an organisation. Explain how to build cohesive teams that perform well. Demonstrate working as part of a team, and working as a team leader for a specific goal. ( P1, 2, 3,4, 5)
You will need to compare the roles of the different members of the team (M1), and evaluate the team’s overall effectiveness in meeting its objectives, making recommendations for improvements (D1)



Prepare a plan for a business event, and arrange a venue ensuring you consider the health and safety requirements. You also need to supply support for running the event. e.g. a first aider (U18 -P3,P4,P5).
This will involve arranging for all your promotional materials for your product/service to be ready   for display.  Your product/service and your video pitch to be uploaded to YouTube or blog.



1.    U19 Leadership attributes & skills- U18 – Role of an event organiser




Complete a skills audit to ascertain the skills sets within your teams. Skills audit forms can be located in moodle. Please identify your skills/qualities. This can be from work experience, or voluntary work, or projects that you have been part of at a previously, e.g. place of study. 
Hold a meeting to confirm who will take on which roles within, and throughout the project.  For example, team leader, secretary, manager, treasurer etc. You will need to ensure that all meetings will be accurately recorded using the formal documents needed (Minutes and agendas) need to be available for viewing either electronically or hard copy. All information that  has been completed need to be stated on your blog page.(P3, 4 5).

Take this opportunity to identify and explain the roles of an event organiser. (U18- P1, P2).  To achieve the merit here you will need to assess the importance of meeting organisational and legal requirements when planning a business event (M1) To achieve the distinction evaluate the management of a business event making recommendations for future improvements (D1)



4.U9 Promotional product
Individually make a list of 5-6 products. As a team choose ONE of the products/service. Hold a meeting to decide which product/service you team have decided to produce. E.g. a bakery, hairdresser, a brand, caps, hats etc,. Confirm in your minutes which has been decided and why.

Design a promotional campaign for a given product/service to meet the needs of a given campaign/creative brief. (P5)




5. U10 Market research in Business
You will need to decide who your target group will be. In your groups you will need to conduct market research using appropriate methods of data collection to identify a target group. e.g. designing questionnaires, surveys etc. Primary/secondary research should be demonstrated, as well as quantitative and qualitative research (P2).

Describe types of market Research (P1).Explain how different methods are used to make a marketing decision (P2) Plan market research for a selected product/service using appropriate methods (P3).


You can achieve (M1) by Explaining, with examples, how different market research methods are appropriate to assist different marketing situations. To achieve (D1), you will need to evaluate the market research method used by a selected organisation. This can be your own!

6 U10 Data collection
Conduct primary and secondary research for your selected product/service making use of identifiable sampling techniques (P4).

Using your data collection methods, carry out your survey in order to confirm the level of interest in your product service.  Ask your target group/s to complete questionnaires and/or surveys, in order to confirm overall interest in your product/service. Record your evidence by way of mobile technology, subject to legal requirements.
Explain the reasons for choosing the particular method of data collection for a particular service (M2). Evaluate the findings from the research undertaken (D2).

7 U10 Statistical data
You will need to show evidence of your research findings, by way of statistical data. e.g. create a graph, chart, tables to analyse your data. Survey monkey can be used here. Presentation of market research will be needed; Types of research and results will be shown to and assessed by your peers.

Interpret findings from the research presenting them clearly in an appropriate format (P5)

You should analyse the research findings and make recommendations on how marketing strategies could be adapted or implemented (M3)

8 U9 Promotional mix/marketing mix
Individually, investigate ways in which you will make use of promotion mix, and marketing mix.  Identify the meanings of each. In groups give details on how you are going to use each method, in your event/promotional campaign. This all needs to be evidenced electronically or by way of scrap books, journals. Evidence can be shown by way of scrap books, and recorded in your journals.
Describe the promotional mix used by two selected organisations for a selected Product/service (P1). Your own organisation and that of your peers should be used as evidence to meet these criteria.
Explain the role of promotion within the marketing mix for a selected product/service (P2).


Explain how promotion is integrated with the rest of marketing mix in a selected organisation to achieve its marketing aims and objectives (M1). To achieve the distinction grade, evaluate and justify the use of an appropriate promotional mix in relation to Marketing objectives for a selected organisation (D1)

9 U9 Role of advertising Agencies. Choices of media in a campaign.
Search for information on a successful advertising campaign. This can be an industry of your choice health care, smoking, fashion boohoo.com, food, 5 a day etc. State what choice of media (TV, Video, Posters, Leaflets, radio, social media) was used, and why you think the campaign was successful.

Explain the role of advertising agencies in the development of a successful promotional Campaign (P3). Explain the reasons behind the choice of media in a successful Promotional campaign (P4).

To achieve merit you should explain the advantages/disadvantages of using professional agencies in ensuring promotional success (M2)

10 U9 Design promotional campaign.
You should have decided on your product/service and will need to design a promotional campaign. You should create promotional materials, such as posters, social networks pages, leaflets, business cards, and any others you can think of.  You will need to create a pitch detailing why you chose the promotional materials, elements of the marketing mix, whether you will use an advertising agency and why? What is the costing, why your idea will work (M2) and evaluate an existing campaign from your early work stating why this was successful (D2). Design a promotional campaign for a given product/service to meet the needs of a given campaign/creative brief(P5)


11. U18-
Managing a Business Event Individual assessment
This will involve two tasks that will be completed as part of a class activity to be assessed by completion of work sheets given by the tutor. You will be an overall deadline to meet these specific tasks. Attendance is imperative here!!!


Produce guidelines for dealing with problems (P6)
Carry out follow-up activities after a business event. Evaluate how a business event can inform future planning. (P7, M3).

U18/19 Review and evaluation
Review the success of the event/Evaluate feedback from delegates participating in the event. (U18 P8, D2).
